Songs that touch us

At group the other night someone shared something about a hymn.  I thought it would be fun to post parts of songs that remind you of this journey, strengthen you on this journey, or just make your days go better.  I love the power of music!

In Lord I Would Follow Thee, it says "In the wounded heart is hidden, sorrow that thee eye can't see."  That makes me think about wives of addicts.  People can't always see our hurts, but they are there.  I wish I could more easily see the hurt to turn women to the 12 steps to help them through the hard times.

What songs do you love and why?

  1. Abide With Me---"...the darkness deepens. Lord, with me abide! When other helpers fail and comforts flee, help of the helpless, oh, abide with me......I need thy presence every passing hour. What but thy grace can foil the tempters power...thru cloud and sunshine Lord abide with me. "

I agree music is a very powerful influence and I love the hymns.

  3. Lead Kindly Light. the first verse mentions about how we can only see one step at a time in our journey and being ok with that. I feel like that IS life.

  4. WOW! I just love the perspective that go with each song listed here. I also feel kind of like I did in school when I had an answer but didn't quite know what to do with my hand when someone else gave my answer first... that said, I will post "How Firm a Foundation" as a song that has helped me of late. All the verses speak to my heart, but the one that says, "Fear not, I am with thee. Oh be not dismayed, for I am thy God and will still give thee aide. I'll strengthen thee, help thee, and cause thee to stand, upheld by my righteous omnipotent hand." I don't have the hymnal with me, so the words/puncuation might be off, but the message is the same.
